Good vibes

good vibes for a good boat, beached the boat for the winter today as we have to be out due to the start of the oyster dredging season, boat is a 2004 250as owned her for 4 years with no problems that we couldn't fix, the sort of jobs you do to customise her to make her your own.
Removed the exhaust pipe at the injection elbow to check the water level ( result ) no water, lowered the pipe to the hull and no water ran out, so happy about that.
Also happy about the boat in general, good fishing platform and  she takes the sea well.
bought her from EBY, didn't deal with Dan, dealt with Andy.
Well tight lines folks and safe sailing.

Happy Days

Collected boat this evening.
Switched on and noticed in this order..

Was quieter.
Was smoother.
Was more responsive.

No vibration.

Who to thank?

BBMS for completing the work to a fantastically high standard.

Barrus for overseeing and arranging (With BBMS) for a new engine.

Brunswick for authorising the new engine.

Don't think I have missed anyone?? Nope.. Not missed anyone.

Boat signed off by BBMS, Barrus, and Brunswick.

Windlass Solenoid Position.

The solenoid is mounted right next to the anchor rope hole.
They are of course designed for marine environment, but to be subjected to as much water as they are???

Tip of the day: Either move it to where it is less likely to be subjected to the water it is, or cover it to afford it protection.

Lest after a year of boating your Solenoid will likely give up as mine has..

Cummins engine paint

I have been trying to source some cummins engine paint to touch up some of the marks i have caused during its service, i ordered some spray paint online at a cost of £24 that was marketed as Cummins QSD 2007-onwards off white paint, it came today and is now lining the bottom of the bin, it is so far from the colour i may as well touched up with black paint.

Anyway before i waste more money does anyone know a supplier or paint type that will match the cummins engine and gear box? i tried Hammerite white but once this gets hot it turns a yellow colour and looks worse.

I am one of these people that will polish every scratch and i hate looking at the paint missing from the nut flats etc, so need it sorting smile

Quick Windlass wiring

The windlass on my 2005 250as will not haul for long without the fuse tripping.  If you leave it for 30 seconds or so it starts again but trips after another minute or two. It has done this since the boat was new but as I usually fish on the drift it has not been a pressing problem.   I am guessing that the wiring is too small and propose increasing the cable size.  Has anyone had a similar problem?  Any advice welcome.

A WORD OF WARNING

HI all.
Went out yesterday in my 215AS , sea conditions were calm to slight and I was accompanied by my stout friend of some 20 stone of weight. We were travelling along at 18 knots myself on the helm and my companion on the deck when out of the blue the boat suddenly veered to port almost at 90 deg without the steering being moved I didn't know what was happening and nearly lost it,managed to throttle off and stop. The cause of this sudden change of direction seems to be the fact my friend moved suddenly from one side of the deck to the other, the incident left me well shaken I dread to think what would of happened if a boat was coming towards us.Came home with a box of Coddling but not a good day.have any other owners experienced this ? in future passengers will have to stay put when the boats on the move.T.J.

I'm the owner of a new 230 A. since 08 with no complaints, got the odd bit of trouble with the turbo but the reason is, it is  only used on weekends. I sorted this by running the engine in gear for two min. while  tied to marina this puts the engine under pressure allowing the turbo to free up. For what it is worth I fish from Crosshaven, Co.Cork, Eire, what a place, good fishing good food and friendly people. The forum is great  I have learned a lot keep up the good work. Sadly the boat is being lifted out next weekend to be brought home to Tipperary where it will looked after like a family member. This is my first time I have  tried this hope it was not too boring. Keep in touch.

Hi all

I own a 2008 250as with a 225 vw engine ,we were out at the weekend fishing close into a reef I kept the engine running whilst doing this for the safety aspect we decided to move to another mark when the bilge alarms came on ,i lifted the engine hatch to see far far to much water swishing about the bilges I checked every pipe ,horse ,inlet ,outlet I could not find nothing I then went into the wheel house lifted the floor hatch removed the bulk head to check pump etc their was the problem a pipe of the exchanger, water was coming out very fast I was shocked to see a cheap steel jubilee clip had snapped in half it can't have been a after market clip as it was painted white as is the engine the bile pumps got on top of the job and new clip fitted  , my point is to all you v w owners it's well worth having a look at these clips this could have been a lot more of an issue , i am not knocking the engines they are the dogs bollies just what's holding the pipes on

thruster anodes

Hi all, have just bought some anodes for the bow thruster on my 23as it is the standard 25kgf Vetus that is fitted on the 23as and I think the same on the 25's.
I bought them from John at Zincsmart a lot cheaper than anywhere else, he has some in stock just now for those that need them, great service as always from John.

Inverter

Having recently bought the beautiful 215 Sea Angel  (thanks Kerry) we are fitting a secondary battery system with a smart splitter etc. However, one of the things we are looking in to is whether or not to fit a top of the range inverter. Our idea is that it would be good to get a burst of heat in the wheelhouse when returning from winter fishing trips and thought that a small fan heater would be the simplest and quickest way of doing this. Notwithstanding the Maths regarding volts in and kw out, has anyone done this and is it successful?
Thanks
Bob

GEL-COAT

I have an Arvor 215, built 2006. I am looking for gel-coat the couler is an off-white or cream-white, the information I have is: the GEL-COAT No. Cream Ashland ( NP10390 ) 875902015, this does not tally with any RAL Number and it seems I would need to order this from Poland. Does anyone know where this product could be got in UK. ?

Legal Expenses Protection (via insurers).

We have today been instructed by our insurers - Haven knox- Johnston, to contact ARC legal assistance who have a firm of solictiors specialising in marine insurance claims.

I would advise all 250 owners who think they have this same exhaust design fault to contact their own insurers.

The Grand old Arvor 280as.

Has anybody on here got one, what are they like, are they a good buy, was it a success story for Arvor (Brunswick marine) or a flop?

I never quite fancied one myself, always thought they were 99k of not enough luxury compared with a benetteau 900 series.

Don't hear too much on this forum to do with the 280. Certainly never been one in my marina in the 14 years I've been boating.

Let's chew the fat over the 280.
