Sliding door issue on 250 - Dave? Also, rusting cleats on my new boat

Dave.
Your problem with the door coming off its rollers, was it a one off or do you know of anybody else experiencing it?

I've looked at my door and I am unable to lift it off the bottom runner and really can't see how it could come off. Do you think yours hadn't been put on the runners properly when the boat was built?

Problem I have had since new is the four supposedly stainless cleats that you put the ropes round on the topsides, they have started rusting... can you believe it.
Got straight on to Dan about it and he said " we normally just give them a polish".  I did that but two weeks later, rust appearing again, less than before but not perfect. No other stainless on the boat has done same.

Told him to get ready for a warranty claim on this one. He spoke to the factory in Poland and they apparently told him the cleats are put on before the hull and top of the boat are joined together and the only way to get to the nuts underneath the cleats to change them would be to drill four inch holes in the sides (deck side) by each cleat and then put inspection hatches in.

I just despair with this mob I really do.

If I'd paid this much money for a car I bet I wouldn't have to put up with this nonsense.

I think everybody should simply stop buying boats from this manufacturer until they start valuing their customers and stop treating us like the fools that we are not.

This might also explain why there are more second hand Arvors up for sale now than when I bought my first 250as four years ago.

Could I Have Found The Leak?

Since I purchased the boat, I have been plagued with trying to track down an intermitent water in the bilge situation.
I have been working on it tirelessly since I had the boat and have used god knows how many tubes of sikalfex.
Weep holes have tissue stuffed in them, and seacocks have tissue bows tied around them.
Seals have been greased... Heck... There isnt a single fitting that has not been taken off and refitted..
I even stretched and selotaped tissue across the whole of the engine bay whilst trying to track down this water ingress.
Today I went out... Lifted the hatch and it was dry..
2 hours later after going nowhere I lifted it again and there was a couple of pints of water..
Now, the water has been collecting rear quarter and the only thing there is a seacock..
All the rear fittings, joins, screws, scuppers have been resealed..

I was close to breaking point and climbed into the rear hatch...
Missus passed me the cloths and I again dried it out..
Then, a tiny drip rolled out of the side weep hole..
I had had my hand through there and knew it to be dry in there..
So hand went over and in again and a fumble around and I grabbed one of the cheap plastic tubes they use for the bilge pumps..
Pulled it up and over the hole which my hand had squeezed through and the tube was going to nowhere...
Or was it???? One end was going to nowhere, but the other was going to a skin fitting which was the breather tube for the gas storage box...
I looked over the side just to see a small wave hit stern of boat and the wave actually lapped right over the fitting...

Thats why it has been tempremental... Only when waves hit side on or stern on does the skin fitting drop below the water line... Water rushes into the tube, the tube didnt go anywhere and the water then flows out into the rear quarter, then when that gets enough it comes through the weep holes to the mid section, and then drains into the bilge...

Happy as a sand boy that I found it..
Annoyed it has taken me 8 months.

But this will now hopefully help anyone else who finds they get water in from no visible leaks..
Hopefully whoever fits the skin fittings in other Arvors fits them a little higher so they dont drop below the waterline.!!!!!!!

TROLLING VALVE

Hi all
I wonder if someone can tell me how to operate the trolling valve on my 215 I understand when to use it etc but do I unscrew the lock collar and pull out the plunger to the required speed? then push the red knob back in and retighten the collar,so frightened of damaging the gearbox. The boat is so difficult to get on my berth it goes to fast with poor steering, have to put it in and out of gear to manoeuvre around the gin palaces berthed close by.Thanks T.J.

Arvor 230

Hi working my way around getting jobs done on my 230 just had the engine alignment sorted out after having low speed wobble , turned out when we did it that all adjusting nuts seized and Arvor factory had - get this - "packed out " with penny washers the engine mount feet between engine mount and   boat hull - classic !!!
Out come - fitted 4 new upgraded strength feet , cleaned up thoroughly the threads on engine mount feet and made 10mm thick solid plates to over come height adjustment on thread issue so the 40mm nuts could adjust without running out of thread !
Previous owner had had prop re pitched and balanced to aide situation
Final result is upgraded mounts now give smoothness from idle to top end
Anybody with any vibration at any speed , Check the prop and cutless then have the alignment check done , transforms the boat job done !
Best regards
Stu

230 water leak

My 230 has water standing at the back corners behind fuel tank that I believe is running along then sitting up the side of the engine bay riggers ( engine sea cock area if I am not making sense )doesn't seem to be suppers , I can see rust stains from the bolts from bathing platform could that be it ? Or anybody else tracked down 230 water leaks that gather in engine rigger area  ? Truth be told it don't look healthy stuff to do the "taste" test !!
Thanks Stu

Anchor retreival

I have a brand new 250as and having moved up from our previous boat with no windlass was really looking forward to easy retrieval with the electric windlass on the 250
My problem is that under the slightest load the thing trips !!
Has anyone had experience of this ? Am I doing something wrong ?
Also do any of you guys use the Alderney ring method for retrieving the anchor and if so where do you secure the line for towing ? As the new bow roller is not up to the job
Any advise would be welcomed
John

Just upgraded to a 2009 Arvor 250as and found that one of the trim tabs is not working when I press the switch the motor/pump runs but there is no movement in the trim tab. I do not know if the trim tabs are hydraulic or electric if they are hydraulic there must be a pump fitted somewhere and also if I have to take the ram apart what can I expect to find if there is anybody out there that can advise me on repairing my trim tabs I will be very grateful for any advise on this subject thanks Paul.

I've seen on this forum some bad reviews of certain suppliers and thought it beneficial to mention when we find a good one. Perhaps you have one yourself who you would also recommend.

TCS are brilliant, always giving advice freely, excellent mail order service backed up by DPD couriers who text and email you to give a definite date and time for delivery.

I do not know anyone who works there or have any vested interest in the company whatsoever, my opinion is solely based on my experience as a customer.

I recommend TCS.

South Coast Jaunt To Alderney

On a south coast fishing forum

http://www.solent-fishing-forums.co.uk

A few of us have planned and agreed a trip to Alderney. Leaving the 4th June 7:00am from Yarmouth.
Returning either the Saturday, or Sunday depending on the weather and how the fishing is going.
(This will of course all be weather dependant)

A couple of people from this forum have subscribed (Agreed) to going, and as we have such a high contingent of South Coast boats here I thought I would mention it on this forum.

Thus far we have 8 boats confirmed and a couple tentative (Varying between 50% to 95% certainty)

If we get the numbers we have as confirmed it should and could be a damned good trip.

We have Quicksilver 20, up to Antares 8 confirmed. We have a couple of 250's and a 215's confirmed

More the merrier.

Cheers

Dave

fishing boat special lift, scrub, 24h ashore and launch deal (Hamble)

$

Hello guys

Few of you might know I work at Hamble yacht services and I have been trying to sort out a good rate for us normal small boat owners.

So what we are now doing is a lift out on our dry stack fork lift, 24h ashore with scrub off and launch off for £100+vat.

To qualify for this rate you must be 23 foot/7 meter or less.
A fast fishing boat, cruiser or rib and a be suitable for fork lift and cradles. (Arvors fit no problem)

Sorry no yachts, and full displacement hulls will be at managements decision as some hulls don't suit the fork lift. and management make final decision on all lifts and suitability.

This rate is generally for weekends, but it will be possible in quite times of the year for lifts to be done during the week.

So in this 24h time you should be able to carry out all the general maintenance like antifouling and anodes, maybe sneak a polish in too. best of all the there is a pub 150yrds away (banana wharf).....lol
Extra time can be arranged if needed on request.
We have electric(@£2.75+vat per day) and water(free). Plus if required we have a fully skilled marine engineers (Nanni,Vovlv,Yanmar and more), boat builders (wood and GRP), welders, riggers and painter (@ £40- £48 per hour +vat) . we also can also lift engines in/out on our crane. these extra services will need booking in advance and storage is free while work is been carried out by us.
if you have any worrys about a fork lift lifting your boat out, have no fear. we do 1000's a year and have a large dry stack racking system. I even fork lift my own boat.

this big fork lift can lift up to 5 ton depending on weight distribution and has had 35 foot ribs on it. if your interested or want to make a booking please call and ask for myself (john quirk) or lee pollock on 02380 454111 and leave a message if im not available or drop me a email on engineering@hambleyachtservices.co.uk . alternatively you can drop me a message on here and il give you a call and book you in.
if you have a larger boat please call for prices and availability

our web site is http://www.hambleyachtservices.co.uk/ , the web site does not show the full extent of facilities available for smaller boats but will give an idea of the yard.

hope that this deal might help some of you guys

215 Engine cover

$

The engine cover has started to vibrate and when I checked I found the exhaust manifold has worn away the insulation and is hitting the cover. I've had the boat seven years and the insulation has always been compressed there but has finally worn through. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how was it cured.

Thanks for any help,  Mark
