Gents,
I am fully up to date with the Volvo type Dripless Shaft Seal used on the 215's etc, and can report that I never have a single drip of water come from one unless I burp it. (After I familiarised myself with correct maintenance of them)
But what on the 250?
What seals do you guys use and have you had experiences of the ones that come as standard on the 250's?
I dont want to influence people, but the rubber ones used are not Volvo manufactured and I would be so bold as to suggest look inferior..
I viewed a boat a month ago that leaked like a sieve and yet had just 200 hours on it with one of these rubber seals on..
There was also salt residue splashed all around the engine bay where it sprayed under drive.
These seals themselves should not drip (Hence the term.... "Dripless", and I particularly am not suitably impressed with the fact they appear to have a few millimetres gap at the end.
Very interested to hear your findings, as for me, when water is inside a container I call it a bath, with a boat I want water on the outside..
I know some seals are designed to drip very slightly, but what are your preferences etc. What seals do you use and put your faith / trust in?
Cheers
Dave
